Dunno if 'other' games (sniff) use pb but there's gonna be all sorts of carnage if we don't get some info on the go on how to disable it when on the lan.
any takers? or is it already been thought of.

You just disable PB on the Q3 server, problem solved. How to disable it exactly, I don't know, but im sure if you RTFM at www.evenbalance.com you can work it out...

Use pb_sv_disable.

ehm, u sure? i thought if pb can't access the net when it thinks it should, i.e. pb is enabled, then it won't allow u connect to any server - including localhost.
obviously the answer is staring at me in the face there...
pb_enable 0 perhaps (client side) as well as the pb_sv_disable (server side).
as for me working it out, i was thinking more of the poor beleaguered admins who may get asked this very question on the day.
