From the EB US Xbox Newsletter ;)
Pre-ordered Halo 2 Yet?
While we realize that what we are about to do is akin to yelling "Fire!" in
a crowded movie theater, we just wanted to calmly and quietly mention that
Halo 2 is available for pre-order with an estimated ship date of June 2003.
Master Chief is back, and to say that the Covenant is a little ticked after
the getting their slimy alien hides kicked out of Halo is an understatement.
Then there's the squad-oriented team play you'll find on Xbox Live. Calmly
follow the link below to pre-order. Please, people, don't everybody click at
once!

The December date came from Bungie for the US release.
"Halo 2," developed by Bungie Studios, is expected to arrive on store shelves for the 2003 holiday season,

Of course the June date is from a retailer, so could still be wrong :)

BUT.........
from all reports the MOD chip will disalow you onto the live service.
It seems M$ are trying to prevent this aweful MOD chipping lark ;-)

I don't and I wouldn't.
Microsoft are going to change the way XBox Live detects mods on a regular basis so you might get online for a while but after that wave bye bye to your online account :D

But that's probably because they don't check the validity of Windows when doing updates.

they do :) basically, if theres a key/code/whatever it is circumventable. The modchip could in theory mask itself from the system in question without a problem.

If they do check validity of Windows then they can't do anything about it as they have said "This is done without sending any information to Microsoft" if they did detect a none legal copy they would have to explain how they found out.
