We could use some help from you MULTIPLAY guys.

We have the French coming over to challenge the UK on console games in December.

If you got any good HALO players please turn up and help defend the UK.
The clash will take place in central London Piccadilly Circus in the massive Burger King basement area. Everyone gets 20% off food and drink. :D
The French will be touring the West End arcades as well over the weekend 14th-15th. The final battle will be in Burger King on the Sunday. Details on dynamic-league.com

If you have a MULTIPLAY UK team why not come down in your t-shirts?

Hoho, you are too funny :p:

Halo is an XBox game and it owns, OK so it will be good with a mouse and keyboard but will it be better??? Only time will answer that question.

I wish, just still pissed that MS stole the game from the PC was sooo looking forward to it but as it stands when it gets released it will be so old it wont be worth looking @ :(

Microsoft didn't steal it from PC he just got it on XBox first.
If he had stole it he would have made it XBox ONLY EVER :)
The fact that they will have to account for minimum spec PC's as well kind of make me doubt just how good it will be on PC.
Publishers should stop supporting an OS that Microsoft don't even support anymore (Win 95) and hardware involving 64Mb RAM and a graphics card that would struggle to play Quake.
When they concentrate more on the mid and top end PC's that's when PC games will start to stand out more.

That's the unfortunate truth! Halo on the xbox is a fantastic game but by the time it does get released on the PC it will indeed be too old. :(

There are still very good console players out there though Mr K ;)

And by the time the PC version comes out people will be preparing for the release of Halo 2.

Why would that make any difference to supporting a console which is below that spec anyhow, I dont think your seeing the point. Writers do go for mid to high end, but that moves. And the comment was ment as light hearted but u obviously didnt see that. As for not stealing it yes they did which ever way u look @ it unless u have a very strange view on life, Oh might have it there after looking @ ur other posts.

No developers go for as lower spec as they can get away with. That way they cover a larger market of PC owners. A P II 400 is not mid-range. Which is what min-spec on most games is now.

And stealing would involve it belonging to someone and being taken without payment.
Since it never reached PC it didn't belong to the format and Microsoft paid a lot of money for bungie and the game.
Thus making it their property to do with as they wish.

LOL min spec u seriously think they develop for that? Thats what the game happens to run on with all option off and even then may not perform adequately.

Hmmmm who should know?
Person who works making games or someone who doesn't???
You decide.

As for UT2k3, one game, anymore???

A quick look...
BF1942 800MHz
No One Lives Forever PIII 500
Lord Of The Rings PIII 600

Even for the ones whose minimum approached a P2 400, this was the absolute base minimum, with recommended specs way ahead of this.

Some, UT2K3 inclusive, will not even run to their best ability with a 2Ghz machine and GeForce 4 TI4600.

Don't get me wrong, you are right about minimum specs, and the fact developers take this into account can and does cripple the capability of the game. However, for many years, many developers have also made their games in such a way as they can not be run with their maximum capability on current hardware. Earliest quote I remember for this is with one of the Nascar games back in the mid 90's. It went along the lines of "This is a game you will rediscover as technology advances".

So name the new games that are designed to run on your PIII400 then. Im sure devs do take current tech into account but the that is so they dont totaly cut off their consumers.
Games which are designed to run on current hardware 1.5->2Ghz+, i.e. wont run optimally on anything less.
1. UT 2k3
2. BF1942
3. Natural Selection
4. Medal of Honor
5. Soldier of Fortune
6. JKII ( try running the rereleased demo level on anything less )

There's more but that will do atm

At last someone with sense.
Thos games are all true but don't you think that by now min-spec should be running at about 800MHz.
People with lower spec PC's than that can't really be into games being released now days if they haven't upgraded above that.
I reckon if games developers/publishes did that then more people would upgrade and turn around the decrease in PC sales which has hit the PC. The PC games market is the slowest growing of the formats and I think it's mainly down the the fact it being held back by games which aren't at their best because they were making it work on min spec machines.

I've seen JKII running on an 800MHz with everything on full with no noticable problems. Not a bad game either :)

All good points there agree with you. JKII until u try the new demo which owned my machine :(

Yeah, that is something that I think annoys most PC gamers with a machine capable of running a high spec game. As an owner of a reasonably specced machine, I would love to be able to have the sort of texture mapping boasted by the XBox (at a resolution you can only really get with a decent PC and monitor).

However, the general impression of the market seems to be that if they made the minimum spec higher, they will lose more sales as less people will buy their game, and devs don't have the time or inclination to release 2 sets of textures with the games.

I suppose a similar argument would be the fact that PC games are released on 3 CD's instead of one handy DVD, which is not something any of the consoles are hindered by either.

TelexStar

aren't u both arguing/discussing about the same thing?

VexedMightily

Yes I think we are! ;)

Dwarf_Pr0n
5th December 2002, 17:55
We are??? :)

DVD games didn't catch on when they tried it before but then thats what you are gonna get when DVD drives arent main stream in PC's. Now you would be hard pushed to get a PC without a DVD drive.

I suppose there are the extra production costs of DVD but surely it's still cheaper than 3 CD's???
