View Full Version : Multiplay main site reviews

TelexStar

The reviews on the main site have been PC games and PC hardware based only.

With the potential of XBOX Live possibly having a more active role in LAN gaming (see THIS THREAD! (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10837) ), my question to you (the readers) is this;

Would you like to see more XBOX reviews on the site?

I'm aware that most PC users seem to Hate consoles for a reason i have yet to understand. I'm also aware that many of you have consoles as well as PC's so if you could all please take the time to answer the poll and give constructive comments/critisism that would be great.

If you vote can you ALSO please comment on why you voted etc

Thanks
Telex

a game is a game no matter what consol it is on.

Every game deserves a review :)

well no not necessarily. I mean we all play single player games as well. we don't just review games for theur multiplayer side.

I cant see why any reason why there shouldn't be a section for it!
I mean ive played many a mutliplayer game on the N64 and PS2 and they can be as fun or (heaven forbid) even more enjoyable (NHL HITZ 2002)!
So i think its a good idea if theres a new section for Xbox as it is a potential multiplayer platform and who knows, i may even buy one of em if i hears good news.

The main reason I dislike consoles is the control system, joypads seem awkward for multiplayer fps and a mouse and keyboard seem much easier.
I've got a joypad for my pc, but I only use that for good old snes and megadrive games :)

The games aren't that much different to the pc versions, except you can't really edit them or add mods etc so you might as well go ahead and review them.

It's not like ppl are forced to read the xbox reviews if they dont want to.

But consoles are so much easier to use for 2-8 player games all on the same screen especially for football and other such sports games.

Things consoles are good at
Football
Ice Hockey
Fighting/beat em ups
Some fps- goldeneye on the 64 (rox)
Being stable (unlike some pc set ups ive known!)

Bad at:
Stratagey (need a mouse!)
multiplayer really unless you got 2+ siblings or friends willing to come round at all hours

feel free to add your opinions

Very true that.

I've also found that i personally prefer playing certain games on the console. For example, 3rd person games like Tomb Raider were always best on a console. I know you can use a game pad with your PC but some how it just didn't feel right to me.

Splinter Cell is another game that i think works alot better on the console. imho.

As most people now own a pc as well as a console, I cannot see the problem adding console game reviews to the main site...

It would be intresting to read the console reviews from an independant viewpoint, console mags are so in-love with their own console the reviews are very biased.

Even those ones that review different platforms, seem to favour one platform over the others.

So yeah do it... do it now telexstar.. :p

are you saying halo isnt a multiplayer game?

and as for the "ohhhh joypads are impossible to use"

with a bit o practise (like a few hours) i could play halo with a joypad just as well asi can play fps games on the pc, if you cant use a controller, you either have no thumbs, or you havent given it a good chance.

you cant say that if you gave someone that had never used a mouse and keyboard before they would find it simple, i think we as pc owners take the use of a mouse for granted.

imo.

[/typical console owners opinion]

This is very true. Console mags are always very biased towards their console (except in the case of Edge who just give crap marks to everything :) )

i think you should only review these games if they make an apperance at a multiplay event!

thats y i voted no!

unless there is going to be a x-box network at an event then i dont think that it is a relevent subject matter for the site!

after all it is about Slans and i-series!

(just my personal opinion)

I have no problem with consoles, i just thought it was not the correct subject matter for this site.

i have been playing Matt Hoffman 2 too much recently.

To be honest i prefer gaming on consoles as i can lie in bed wack it on and just go for it.

I think as long as it's related then yes. But don't limit it just to the Xbox. With the PS2 soon to have network support, and the Gamecube one day having it. So if the game is multiplayer then yes, review it.

The thing is, any console reviewing is usually aquired through good PR and relations with the console manufacturer.

In this case, we are on VERY good terms with Microsoft, and I have almost daily contact with their marketing department.

On the other hand, Nintendo have a very poor grasp of marketing in the UK, while Sony, in my experience, have a very stuck-up attitude.

I do love my consoles.

i buy ALL my single player games for my PS2,
i voted no though, cos allthough its a good idea, you would have to have reviews for ALL major consoles, not just X-Box (!wich is a big fat waste of time and money!)

XBOX HATER ALERT!!! EVASIVE MANOUVERS!!!

hmm, that allways seems to happen.... :)

Only if you do reviews for other consoles too. PS2, GC etc...

It's not staff that we're worried about, it's the cooperation from console manufacturers.

Many narrow-minded companies still don't regard MPUK as a viable and decent source to allow reviews on. Microsoft and PC games publishers, on the other hand, do.

If you want to see other console stuff on here, then you need to get in touch with the console manufacturers and make them understand we're not just another fly-by-night company.

In the meantime, you can see Microsoft and its XBOX division are extremely serious about working with us from the latest announcement.

i've always wanted to try reviewing games, i would lurve to try being an xbox/ps2 game reviewer.

also, why dont we just follow the example our government set on the euro,

ignore the majority, we know best

yes 39.39%
no 60.61%

anywho, whats the hard in having some console reviews if we have new people to rite them?

I've had one of these pads for ages. From the start I've never been able to put my hands completly around the 'standard' controller so I never bought it.

This pad is the win.
Perfect for those with small hands.

Im all in favour of reviews, i crave other people's opinion's on games, although ide rather make my own assumptions on games (who doesn't) than someone who may not even light the general class (ie RPG, FPS etc) but its always good to know what other people think so when you bring it up in general conversation you know your not going to get beaten within a inch of your life...

most the time i only ever read reviews if im thinking of buying a new game, i dont read reviews on games i have already played, beucase i dont really think there much point in that, but it is useful to have people that are good at writing reviews so i dont have to rent every game im thinking of buying.

Don't say no, as I would love the chance for a XBox Live massive game of Halo or Unreal Championship - Hell Doom3 could be out by i15

There is obviously demand for xbox reviews so if multiplayuk have the ability to present us with some then why not?

After all you don't have to read them

i subscribe to PC GAMER (and have done for bloody years! - they just keep taking money out of my account on direct debit! )

but to be honest i never really read the review in there!

ill look at the screenshots and check out the score.... but most of the time if im really interested in a game i most likely already played it or read up on it before it gets to pcgamer!

all i actually read is the 'NET' section and the system section.... and maybe the news section! and i throw the cd's away every week (cant be doing with crappy demos - likewise if i wanted them that much i prolly already downloaded then)

come to think of it y the f00k do i subscribe to pcgamer!? i prolly only look at the mag for about 20mins... and it cost £4 a month or somink....

oh well.... ringing the bank to cut off the Direct Debit sounds like to much of a task...
