No offence to anyone from -md- or wuzzle, but you don't have any experiance of 50-player LANs. Let me assure you that they do indeed rock.
The main feature for me of the FBL series is that everyone ends up playing the same game. I personally love that, everyone screaming across the room at each other in MOHAA, heated Battlefield games, watching you CS pe0ns play that crap game etc. Beleive me, I want to keep that, and we will if wqe have 50 ppl. At StratLAN around 70-80% of the ppl are playing the same game, and that's how it would work for FBL. We'd still be organising massive games, and we'll have the servers to cope.
Trust us on this. 50ppl == teh rock

How about 2 25 players lans linked by an stm4 connection??
GeeDee
12th November 2002, 10:19
yeah! good idea!
...or not. :p:
how about - we could all stay at home and have our LAN with a VPN network over the internet. A big WAN party!
:p:
oh and btw /me fluffles Asterix; come to FBL-6! :D

50 is teh bestist number ever. seriously.
i did maths.
i should know.
50 player fbl would be l33t, just plain l33t.
hmm, i suppose a wan could hold limitless players.... anyone for a game of MOHAA..... 10,000 vs 10,000???? :D

The bigger the better. if I could find enough kit and a big enough venue I would happily do a 100 person LAN party. The idea of a LAN party series is to grow.
Take ye olde Padworth series, which at Padworth 4 gained GeeDee, who took over running the event and made the event far better.
Enter FBL3 with GeeDee, Boffy myself and lots of wuzzle people.
FBL4 had the above and a few random internet people and a few MPUK people [KOS] Niclouse etc...
FBL5 well I think the coolest part had to be the flawlessness at 25 people and meeting the long known people from IRC like Renegade and TheHustler.
So to rest my case I have proven that the bigger is better is going to work!
Also regarding the actual poll at the top of this thread, at a 50 person event we could probably do more food and drink due to ecconomies of scale, without needing to increase the entrance fee much.
So FBL6 50 people?
yes?
Good.
:D

i know EXACTLY what you mean - that was the highlight of my day - all of us playing MOHAA or UT2k3 together and hearin people shotin **** when u just killed someone or shouting where is that sniper when ur so far back from a window you can barly see over it. i liked the UT2K3 bit when i owned (in the fractical type map) :D
50 people would be cool, but i'll still have the problem of remembering everyone :D atleast i'll know 20 or so of the peopel there hehe

lol. DM-gael is far too small for the number of people we had on it. especially when its instagib. :)
speaking from stratlan experiance. 50 people is still small enough to be social. and great fun when you get huge games going :)
MudBlud
13th November 2002, 10:37
its only too small for the number of people coz i can dodge 5x better than u  lol
im thinking... u only got like 28 signups for fbl5 - how u gonna get 50?
Brains-Lans
13th November 2002, 16:13
The MPUk people we know that would have been at fbl5 but because it was mid week they couldent come.
50 people isnt gonna be that hard :)

I see your point, if you must know i am all for a 50 person LAN. but does it really have to be in andover? i understand that it makes it easier for giles, but i dont think my parents are going to be that willing for a 3 hour drive. Perhaps somewhere in between?
Boffykins
13th November 2002, 16:44
3 hour drive? Where do you live? And yes, it has to be Andover or Longstock cos the venues will rock. Seriously, if we go one place we MAY (and that's a big MAY) be able to get a 2mbit IOnternet conneciton :)
MudBlud
13th November 2002, 17:04
is andover any closer to me? im guessing its further away :(

Only slightly. You need to get to Basingstoke train station and change there for Andover

50 player lan b pure 1337ness and as its FBL it b more gooder
at fbl5, if we get a big game goin, about 70% of people will play and only about 50% will play for a long time, so by the end u have only got about 10 people playing. so if we had 50 people big games would allways stay big n stuff :D

Fatboylan will hold the LAN party at any location which has enough tables, chairs, power and space for what we need. If you feel that you cannot travel to andover I would like to point out that you blatently suck, and if you dont come i will just have to rub the coverage in your face until you are so guilt ridden you beg for forgiveness.
I know people who drive for 6 hours to get to a LAN, Ben it will take your parents less than 2 hours from your house to Andover or Longstock.
Until such times as we get a venue orginised please remain calm.
