With the new adition of BF1942,UT2003, and maybe even to go as far as Raven Shield(The demo). Has Renegade already been surpassed? I for one hope this is not the case..

Your thoughts if you please..

Nibbler :)

Renegades engine was quite frankly piss poor.

All the weapons felt noobed

it was good, but i think they didnt give it enough support at the begning of it's online life to make it a bit more sucsessful (they promised flying vehicles, but took a few months to get them in a patch)

good, but since i formatted a while ago, i havent felt the need to play it :(

Err, Red Alert2 - one of the best RTS games ever released.

imo Renegade was one of the best FPS games out because it was realistic (no translocators which ruins UT), you could do loads of things other than shooting e.g. lay mines etc.

Just a shame the graphics weren't very good. (which is what seems to put many people off playing it)

Renegades concept was very good. It's gameplay was ok. It's engine was dire. However, I'd like to have seen it go full C&C but with people playing your troops a la Allegiance. I wanted a commander and base building and tech tree damnit.

Renegade is fun, plain and simple argument over i dont giv a monkeys about the enigine, CS has a crappy engine yet thats good, it all depend on how fun the game is. RA2 is also fun therefor good, Unreal tournament is fun 90 percent of the time somtimes its a bit thin. All about fun, hell even graphics dont matter much, they dont make them good. And if any of you are playing for reason other than fun then your wired because that what games shoud be especially at a lan!!

So, overall, longevity is the most important part of any game, because if you want to keep playing it, it has to be good.

The only game I know which keeps you going for years on end is Goldeneye. You're having to work to get yer cheats, levels and characters and this is best way to do things imo, or it will get tedious.

What would be nice is if Generals map files could be used in a spin-off game like Renegade but for Gen.

I'll go now....

Yeah, Natural Selection half life mod has this implemented very well. They just have balance issues to deal with.

I must admit, they are all good points about the game, but it seems to be the case that more ppl are favouring the DEATH option. But as said earlier in the thread. lets hope the new C'n'C Generals will prod some life into Westwood.. Me hopes....?????

It was fun.... shame about the engine.

It was the first fps I had really liked playing in a while..... UT wasn't bad but was getting old. With the advent of BF and UT2k3 I think renegade will die.

Renegade was really good it would have still been a great game if it had had the option of commanders and buildings and all the stuff that was missing from it (better physics.)

Hopefully they might be able to make a renegade 2 with a good engine (doom3, UT) and use that. And then add in all the missing features as that would make one very good game.

Yes but I think you'll find most peoples problem with the engine wasn't that it was crap to look at alone. The problem was that it looked about as good as a HL mod yet required tons more processing power. Busy scenes would lag and that pisses you off and reduces the fun :)

a good test of how good a game is, is how much it gets played at lans.

CS - gets a look in at every lan
Warcraft 3 - game of JULY Dreamlan
Battlefileds - Game OF last slan and Dreamlan.

Renagade got only a small look in. the maps are a bit piss poor and linnear tbh.

It just felt messy and rushed, in principle it would have been such a good game, but in practice it was rushed, buggy and therefore not enjoyable.

I am really dissapointed in the support for renegade at the i series. I am going to be trying to promote it a little at i15 and run a server but I tried at i12 or 13 (i cant remember) and it turned out to be a bit of a fop. Could only get 10 players. Who knows, with over 1000 players, we may get some games going.

Any gsa players here? I am [BA]Yannic btw

Ask at the helpdesk and we can probobably sort something, although we don't tend to keep the servers open if we need the room and no one is using it.

If we get a chance maybe evening time could try get it annouced over the speakers. Best tatic though has to be join #renegade on the day and ask around other channles then go find the people.

Renegade discussion lol, well I LOVE THE GAME SO MUCH, yes once you get past the clipping problems with your guns, the fact half the guns are completely worthless and fail to work properly, the awful AI that causes enemies to run backwards and forget to shoot you, the prefab after prefab of C&C buildings, the infinately respawning enemies (for the most part), the ridiculous-ness of the bosses, the voice acting, havoc himself (mouthy tw*t), the poor FMV scenes, the lack of a proper ending, the fact they seem to want to make a sequel, ALL OF THE RESCUE MISSIONS, the obelisk and its magic instant charge time, the stealth tanks (which look utter tripe), the rather unfair difference in splash damage between enemy rocket launchers and yourself, the lack of decent fluid movement around the maps (very limited in design), the entire tutorial and the lack of good servers for online play.

Yes once you get past all these problems.. you realise that this game is a mixed bag. A mixed bag of problems ranging from disheartening to disabling. Being a C&C fan, i was very, very dissapointed.

Online play is only slightly redeemed by tank combat, which is pointless because actually doing anything without getting blown apart by one bloke with a rocket launcher is impossible, and dont get me started on the ridiculous guardtowers..

Arghhhhh

Lol, I dont think I have the words to comment on the invalidity of that sentence. I15 will be another big write up on how to run mpuk's somewhat deserted public servers, not that you read the bloody comments sheets.

if some1 is going to organise a match, i'll definetaly play. Just need to dig the game out and find a patch :D

but hopefully the patch will be on the i15 ftp server ;)

I agree single play is a pile of donkey **** however it seems you never undorstood the idea of teamwork for the multiplaying game.

From what I remember, the mpuk server was down for about half the time at the last event i went to. Not offline, just not working. However, I dont mean to complain, GJ.

I have been designing an MPUK map Specific to this event. Should be finished just in time if i can get back to my computer for the next week.
