The other day my niece asked the question "do chickens shag?" so do they?? and if they do... does the cockeral fertilise the hen seeing as its impossible to fertilse each individual egg... if u understand what i mean....

so this is our mission at the moment, to find out if chickens shag! so please help our cause and make my niece a little less puzzled

Cockerals are required to fertilise the eggs, to get chicks, otherwise you just get scrambled eggs.

My parents used to own chickens, and a cockeral, but I can't remember the exact details about that side of things ...

I'm guessing that the cockeral just fertilises a few eggs from each chicken, and the rest of the eggs just end up unfertilised.

as far as i know chicken sex is so distressing and tiring that it last mere seconds and takes the chicken by total suprise.

you bunch of townies!

yes pos you are correct. the cock fertilises the hen.... how often depends on the type of chickens

of course the hen can still produce eggs without being shagged... but they only good for eating.. thus battery hens are stuck in a box for mass egg laying.
