View Full Version : Problems online, can't fire the weapon

Does anyone else experience problems playing online? Sometimes, the gun won't fire at all, other times it will fire with a massive delay, and sometimes it fires but the beam / bullet or whatever isn't visible. When it happens, it isn't a one off shot, it lasts for 30 seconds anywhere up to a minute and a half. This only seems to happen during online games. I'm on 600K broadband with a reported ping of 40-ish so it doesn't seem to be anything lag related. And I have patched so there's no obvious fix for this. Does anyone else have these problems, or know a fix for them?

I get the same issue. It's like the server isn't registering your "I'm fireing" information.

Yes i get this. once it was so bad i had to disconnect and reconnect to the server. i was second on the table as well :-/
i have also noticed that it never happens when i play at lans. only ever online. dont know why that would happen

Most likely this is due to the server not being powerful enough to process all of the commands it is receiving.
Every command sent to a games server has a priority over other types (eg. shooting, moving, jumping, updating scores, updating visuals for things like grenades, etc.) -- Now if the server can't physically handle them all, it drops the lower ones.
If a server isn't handling all fire requests (which are almost near the top), it usually means there's not enough computational power in the server.
Unfortunately you can't edit the priority of these things, as it's coded into the engine.

i've been getting this quite a bit, normaly a death or a reconnect will allow me to start firing again. Which is a major pain in the backside

I was hoping for a reply like "yeah, i used to get this too, just change a 0 to a 1 in the console and it will be fine." How sad.

its a packetloss problem, doesnt happen often fortunately, but its not a "game" problem as such, all you can do is reconnect to the server or play somewhere else.

No the latest patch caused this :( (well for me anyways)..
Couldnt believe it last night, was keeping up with the ADSL'er's on my crummy 33.6k connection, when suddenly my gun started firing blanks
I thought it was because of my connection (ping of 250+ :) ) but now I hear cable ppl have the same problem...
Damm dodgy game, lets hope it doesnt cause problems at I14, or else we'll all have to play UT instead
