go to a newbie server!!
but you will always get some top player in there taking the piss lol!
dont touch Quake 3 or UT as they been around along time and the genral standard pritty good on good servers!
BF1942 prolly the best!
but if you want a FPS (as in a deathmatch game)
id go with ut2003 seeing as it only been around a couple of months! although any one who played a fps before pick it up easy!
i think you just gonna have to get used to being trashed for a while! (if you playing a fps anyway)
we were all at that point once upon a time! CS might piss you off waiting for reapawns

The last FPS i played online was AVP on a 56k modem and dont mean to brag ahem but i wasn't half bad.
Although things have changed a lot since then, ill be able to pick it up its just how good ill be thats the random variable. Practice it seems is the only answer here.
Never Mind! BF1942 looks cool though!

Day of Defeat is a good starter a HL mod WW2 based.
Plenty of FF Off servers about very suitable for New ppl to the game so not to get banned for TKing.
Come in and chat in #bydod or #multiplay i r always there :p

UT for the most of if the community is alot more newbie friendly, and if you can handle it i recomend starting out on advanced servers as you'll learn skills quicker, and start to play at a higher standard alot more quickly than playing with people at your standard.

UT2003 is your best bet. New and gorgeous game, and 80% of the playing population seem to be clueless newbies. I'm sure you'll be owning all of them without much difficulty :)

beginners luck is very good in online games i find, when i first got cs and ut i was so leet, now i just plain suck, but then again i never play online games anymore, so that might have something to do with it.

Bloody plug and pray, just not worth all the hassle and if i touch that broadband again my dad will probs kill me he spent all night trying to fix it while i went out! lol.
Best thing i think to do would be to put it in my comp but i think ill need to wait a while before i do that
