Since the big day is getting closer I have been getting more and more excited until, to my great horror, when booting up CS today I discovered that it's all gone tits up. Whenever I try to join a server it crashes to desktop and sometimes I get a WinXP "sorry but it has to close, would you like to send a report" error.

This cannot be happenning since CS is basically all I can play!!!! arrrrgh. and also my clan is a BLOODY CS CLAN and it must be working or there is no point in me coming. :(

Can any of you technically adept persons help me as I am fresh out of ideas. And please dont tell me to update my gfx drivers.

I am deadly serious, plz help.

step one: grab a ut cd off of either me or boffbowsh at the event.
step two: uninstall cs
step three: install ut :D

seriously though. have you tried reinstalling / patching half life? then installing CS again?

(graphics drivers could also be the problem but you say not to mention them so i wont)

also. have you installed anything recently? as some program could be using your connection that interfears with half life. if you installed a program before it stopped working then try uninstalling that.

this is a pc not a mac. windows gets cluttered up after a few months (read days) and its best just to wipe the lot and start from scratch.

Ben Ben Ben

Now now, calm down.

Simply uninstall the game and re-install, should that not work come to the event and once the event is underway we will dedicate our skillz to it.

THERE IS NO REASON TO PANIC!
COME TO THE EVENT
WE WILL FIX IT
CALM DOWN

Cant you people read?! i fixed it.

I seem to also have this problem with my new memory, i think it is because a) its conflicting with my old memory or b) the memory is getting too hot as the CPU temp is rising to about 50 degrees.

I'm going to buy a case fan at the weekend, they're not that expensive are they? and while i'm at it i'll buy a headset and maybe a new mousemat and perhaps a cheapo keyboard since the stands on the bottom of mine broke.

hey brian what do you think of the mouse i bought? see topic "The BIG shopping List to feed all at FBL5 "

50 degrees is nothing. in fact its about average. dont forget an amd cpu is rated to 80 or 90 degrees. mine idles at about 45-50 at normal room temp but then my motherboard seems to have fixed the vcore at almost 2v no matter what i set it to in the bios

but anyway. cpu temp wont effect memory temp. it may be a faulty dimm though. try reseating your ram. and your graphics card, sound card etc just to be safe. if that doesnt fix it try moving the dimms to different memory slots (if you have a free one that is) that can sometimes help.

well i've only got 2 dimm slots and i took out my 128mb card and reseated my 512mb card and it works now. :(

i'll try putting the case back on and playing. if that works then i'll leave it. if it doesn't then i know that it is overheating and i'll buy the fan.
