After reading about the upcoming changes in cs 1.6, I would have to ask is it really worth making this changes in a game where atm most ppl are happy with the way it is ?

Well ok a few ppl didnt like some of the changes that have been made in CS recently (1.4) like for example to new jumping where it makes it harder to move around the map and makes it hard to use routes that involve jumping. A good example of this is on Italy (as ct) where you have to jump up 3 box's to get into the passage that goes round the back of the T spawn.

Its clearly not just that area on one map that has been affected by these changes it changes the whole game play of CS, imo for the worst. Obviously some ppl would not agree with me but that's just how I see it. There is only one benefit that I can see and that is the inability for ppl to bunny hop :)

Also the aiming was also changed in 1.4 making shooting harder when moving, this would mean that a team with the defending role in a map have more of an advantage.

Well these changes where made in cs 1.4, both of these I don't agree with but I guess they are done and here to stay :( I'm sure a lot of ppl would say that this makes CS more realistic, but how realistic would you want it before the realism affects the game play and the overall fun ?

So far from what I can see from cs1.6 the changes are mostly weapons and changes to 2 maps (Aztec and inferno) maybe the addition of a new map (comrade) view demo, friends (a messager),stream and a few bug fix's.

Stream hmmm, im not really sure how that's going to work, it says that you will be able to buy and download games from it, also upgrade to the newest versions. It looks like if you already have HL with the CS mod or CS retail it will upgrade you to the newest version available just like an auto update service. But if you don't have these you can buy them online from stream and download it (or parts of it) when needed. I haven't seen anything like this for games so im not so sure what to make of it, has anyone else seen somethink like this for games before ?

New map, I would like to see some new maps as i am getting tired of playing the same maps all the time. When I say that I mean standard maps, custom maps are ok ish but they never have the same feel to them as the good standard maps. Imo some of the new maps recently are very poor (chateau, piranesi, torn and havana) ok some of them look very nice like Torn for example, but was it just me ? or did it take everyone at least a month to find their way round it ? What im saying is imo there are core maps that the majority like to play on publics and also clan wars (Aztec, dust2, nuke, inferno) it would be nice to see a few new maps to that kind of standard. Hopefully comrade will be included and as it is one of Narbys maps fingers crossed it will be a good one.

Changes to Aztec and inferno ? The pictures ive seen of the new inferno do look nice and imo its nice to see graphical improvements to maps, apparently there are no game play changes tho. Aztec however it also says there are some game play "glitches" removed hmmm. I have pld a beta of the new Aztec (clearly this may not be the same version of the one released with CS 1.6) and "glitches" isn't the word I would use. From what I can see is the map has been made even more ct biased.

The changes made are quite obvious, first of all in T bridge room the gap between the box's has been removed, ok this works both ways the T's now cant see the CTs on the left side of the bridge and the CT's cant see any T's sniping behind that box using the gap to aim from. This only leaves one area from the Ct bridge room (a small area to shoot/spot CT's. The CT doors (if you go right from CT spawn) have been turned the other way, so they open inwards :( this means the CT don't have to come out of the doors to cover the T doors, this imo is an ideal sniper spot for the CT's and another advantage for the CT's. There are a number of other small changes ive also seen, such as the overall brightness of the map there are now almost no dark areas at all, there is also more lighting in the water areas.

The new Aztec looks nice but looks like anyone playing on the T side you receive a lot more ass love then even before on the overly CT biased map :(

The new view demo program is a great idea hopefully no need for external programs to view demos now like geekplay etc. And also the inclusion of a message service that's also something handy if that's your cup of tea.

3 new weapons ? well 2 new weapons and one bit of equipment. Galil, Famus and err shield ? The Galil is a T only weapon and from what it says it maybe more accurate maybe this could be the new weapon of choice for the T's ?

The Famus looks like it has 3 shot burst, like the burst mode on the glock. Will the Famus rival the ak then ? so I guess the Galil will rival the colt maybe ? I hope anyway.

lol and the shield, cant wait to play with that ;p

So it looks like there will be a fair few changes in cs1.6 but is it really worth making them, ok what we may get is 2 new assault rifles, updated maps (maybe a new one) a demo viewer, a messenger service and Stream.

But do ppl like CS the way it is atm ? is there any need to change it ? There is a fair few of the changes I will look forward to and some I wont.

I'm looking forward to:
the new guns
the demo viewing menu
'Friends' or tracker, not that ive noticed this, is that in 1.5?

I'm not looking forwards to:
the 'updated' aztec
Steam
the Riot shield

I couldnt care less about: Misc Fixes

"The new version of Half-Life will fix a long standing bug regarding sound. If you lose focus of the HL window (say ICQ pops up, or something), you lose sound. In the next version of HL, sound will automatically return. A four year old bug being fixed is quite remarkable!"

That has never affected me at all. I just esc, alt&tab then alt tab back and return to game WITH sound.
======

When du think it will be out?

Thats the bug it fixes, so you dont have to do that ;p

And no idea, even if they gave a date it wouldnt be released then, they are always late. Best not to even give one tbh.

viewdemo works now :)

STEAM not stream will make it easier for n00bs to dl and also give valve a trace on who is doing what.

Updates are important for stopping cheats and bugs, improvong gameplay after been tested (by us) on as any spec machines as possible. After a few hours you dont relise its changed (by bunny hopping)

Thin the rito shield will chnage the gameplay all together (pending on cost) just think pistol round one got a shield and the rest hide behind with grens etc etc :P Next we will have claymores and tripmines :D

Anyway we cant moan till we try it out!!!

Now the fiveseven has 2 be 1 of the worst guns 2 play against... every 3rd shot hits the head i swear :D u might aswell fire off 2 shots in the air then aim the other 1 at their vague direction and it hits their head, its so random, such a scary gun 2 play against.

Alough im an aztec whore, im looking 4wd 2 the updated version cos its gonna make way for new taccies and advantages which aztec really needs... cos imo once u reach a certain level of skill as CT on azzy, u can hold basically any1 off and its hit and miss even if ur the best team in the world as T.

the thing im concerned about with steam is, can you still play cs games without it ?

i for one like MANY cs players use external programs to browse/join cs games. but with this new steam thing, it sounds as though it's heavily restrictive and you have to run that to access cs ?? if they enforce this, i think its gonna make a lot of cs players unhappy......

Well boo hoo! Might make them play proper games then.
Let us pray CS will fade away - quickly.

If steam is an automatic update program then...

Steam does bother me, I'm on a 56k modem, I'd rather download the updates and burn them to CD (for safty) rather than have the game decide what to download for me.

The other problem with it is this... If I want to play CS, i want to play CS, not wait for some patch/download to come down the wire. I fire up the game, and then sit there waiting 10mins? 20 mins? before I can play, I'll get bored (like countless others) and go find something more exciting to do (play hearts!)..

My brother enjoys playing CS, its one of the few games he can play on his P3-500, everytime there is an update, he phones me up and says "MY CS dont work no more?". Usually it involves me downloading the update and putting it onto cd for him.. Well steam will screw that up totally, and another player will be lost from CS..

Is that a bad thing?, who knows?, maybe steam is Valves sneaky way of getting people to purchase CS:Condtion Zero or even TF2 (if it ever comes out!).

BTW... anyone know how the RIOT shield is going to work?? Is it going to stop all bullets, or what?. Can it be used as a melee weapon (eg u can bash ppl with it) ??

ROFL - that coment really made me laugh. I get it all the time, ie [m8]Biff my cs wont work - It come up with solitare
[Biff] FFS you messed with target again havent you?
[m8]Yes i thought i could play silatire while i wait to load it up and when im dead :)
[Biff] mmmmm - there s game called TFC, that might suit you m8. :D (ill burn in hell for that one - last comment is fictional and no hurt was intended in the previous comments - thought id make it aother TFC vs CS thread :D)

The riot shield will be only affective against smal arms and pistols, while rifle rounds will be dramtically reduce damage. To fire your five-seven you have to remove shield. Also you r vulvenble from behind and have limied viewing ie a small slot.

Well it does bother me as well, mostly because it hasnt to my knowledge been done b4. The way i understand it is, it will only update changes in the game, so if u already have cs installed when a update comes out it will only change a small part of the game. And like you i like the idea of having the install files handy like on a cd or on my hdd somewhere.

I would feel very uncomfortable if it was a game that i have purchased that i had to download everytime i reinstalled.

But then again if an update has come out for CS you cant really jump on a server and play, because 90% of servers are updates a few hours after any patch is released.

However i dont see why the hl/cs directory cant be backed up so you dont have to install/upgrade the game from scratch when you reinstall your pc.
