Probably a 12 vs 12. I'll take map suggestions as well.

They are #1stgg on east.gamesnet.com IRC server, and nickbrown122@msn.com is one of their clan leaders.

Defcon, sorry to be so blunt, but does your head ever deflate?

No, sorry, I don't want this to turn into a pissing match, so I retract that, for the sake of mine and MPUK's sanity.

Get your head out your own ass. yes your a good player and yes i respect you for that. But u believing that MPUK as a clan cannot organise tactics which are just as good as yours, i find insulting.

What's most amusing is the lack of complexity or flexibility the tactics had. No offence intended Defcon but "good tactics" require a great deal more than a few lines in IRC - and trying to insinuate that we could "learn something" from the tactics we used the other night is a little naive.

ok guys - I need votes.

This game has just become our first official ladder game.

We need map votes. The rules say we need to play 3 maps, but frankly that's just toss, so I'm going to ask 1stGG if they mind just playing 1 or 2 maps. The official rules (afaiu) state that we play 3 maps (not rounds) and then take the result, but obviously we would need to play 2 rounds per map so I think that 1 or 2 at the most would be sufficient.

As we were the challenging team, we have to pick a 3 maps from their top choices - please vote for them here http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11796

The ladder info is here - http://www.squadgames.com/ladder_network/ladder.php?ladderid=8 - I am yet to finalise the match - I will do after sufficient votes.

Shame I can't play in the game really :(

Njoroge

The official ladder rules are 12v12 bootz, so please do turn up to boost the squad. You will get a game because you haven't played as much as a lot of the other guys.

Will need lots of tactics for these maps as they are rather huge.

Njoroge
11th October 2002, 13:44
Indeed WildThing - feel free to write some up anybody

Njoroge
12th October 2002, 10:51
Finalised match.

1st Map - Market Garden
2nd Map - Battle of Bulge
(3rd Map that we won't play, but you have to select 3 - El Alamein)

We really do need 12 for this one guys - a win will shoot us to the top of the ladder and open us up to challenge the next team.

I need to talk to the 1stGG guys to find out if they mind only playing 2 rounds on 1 map because the ladder rules are unclear. If not then it'll be 2 maps 2 rounds each.

Will keep you all posted.

Njoroge
12th October 2002, 11:14
No way Bootz, we need to you play. Seeing that ass wiggle while toting an assault rifle is great for team moral :)

We really need a 12 player team bootz, so we need plenty of ppl prepared to play, so please be around. This can be your trial :)

What time is the match tomorrow? The post says 8pm, but on the ladder it says 8pm CET which is 7pm GMT isn't it? Or have the CET clocks already gone back?

Njoroge
14th October 2002, 11:13
thx for pointing that out - 8pm GMT - I'll make sure they know that. The worse that could happen is they turn up an hour early ;)

Rmage
14th October 2002, 12:52
Well for the first time this month I will not be stuck in a hotel room and will be available if needed.

Which comms software have you settled on ?

I`ll be online tonight for some practice with my terminal medical skills

:D

bvark
14th October 2002, 13:07
Rmage - we haven't really settled on comms software; please have both teamspeak and roger wilco available and working :(

Helier
14th October 2002, 15:11
teamsound can be an arsed to setup, but its really clear.

Battlecom is easy to get setup and not to bad overrall.

Haven't used roger wilco for a while but last time it was pap ;/

Wizzo
14th October 2002, 15:16
Roger Wilco is clearly LOSE encoded... it was utter crap in last night's game.

Teamspeak all the way!!!

Catachan
14th October 2002, 15:16
TeamSpeak is low-lag with a huge list of features which are useful.
Roger Wilco is low-lag with a huge list of ****e features.
Battlecom is not low-lag and has almost no features which TeamSpeak doesn't have.

I see a winner, what about you? :D

We really need to get TS working for all the clan members then we'll be sorted. Please guys - have another go at setting it up.

Last night using RW my ping shot to 800 as soon as I said a word - that was annoying.

I have just chatted to the clan leaders we will play Market Garden and Kursk (neither side liked battle of the bulge :-).

Team Damage on, reflect off, nose camera on, normal tickets.

I will generate some tactics and maps tonight for our delectation.

Oh, and they didn't know it was a 12vs12 ladder, so I have agreed we will go down as low as 10 for this match.

After-action report:

We are now top of the squadgames ladder (phear!)

4-0 on Market Garden and Kursk
228-0 MG as Allies
148-0 (tut tut, only a major victory) MG as Axis
171-0 Kursk as Allies
165-0 Kursk as Axis

Squad:

helier (trialing)
bootz (trialing)
andyf
bvark
BGH
Wizzo
Muppinator (merc)
Smartmonkey (merc)
Lyn

Medals (lots this time since it was a real war):
Congressional medal of honour goes to bootz for a sterling opening performance for the clan, scoring two 'top of squads'

Distinguished flying cross (with brown wings) to Wizzo for an excellent pinch-bomber role after earlier modesty nearly saw him on foot.

Silver star to 10acious for a very solid offensive performance, including some great artillery kills

Order of the stitch in time (1st class) and the order of the red banner to TheGuyver

Purple heart (and recuperative vacation in the Crimea) to andyf for his many deaths

Vittorio Veneto order of the 5 reverse geared tank to BGH, who frankly let the team, himself and his whole family down. I understand self-flagellation has already commenced.

MPUK BF1942 "early" campaign ribbons (awarded to those playing 6 or more competitive games for the side in this period) to: Andyf, Bvark, AcidUK, Afty, TheGuyver and Lyn.

Market Garden notes:
Allies:
Obviously pilots are key here
A very solid defense, a very convincing victory (only 12 deaths)
People should not push south over the bridges in tanks if they can avoid it (too likely to get bombed :)
Good engineer and AT support at the start
Getting the church tanks is key to holding off the first tank assault, but they need to be split between the bridges.

Axis:
Not enough good tank drivers - you should NOT be stopping in an area with infantry around. Equally, you should not expose your side or rear armour in a tank-tank duel unless you enjoy exploding.
Good spawn camping - two tanks up there will wreak havoc when properly deployed and supporting each other
Good mop ups of paratroopers
Need to get a better system of avoiding tank theft in our base (or limiting it to light tanks!)
Tanks shouldn't be stopping very much

Kursk notes (combined):
We need to split the defense much more evenly and more intelligently.
People need to use 'enemy armour spotted' more often, or get better descriptions
We need pilots for AA duty :)
Stealing other people's tanks works well
Shelling their spawn with artillery also works very well

General notes:
We need more pilots! Mav, Catachan and Gifted need to find some promising players and take time to train them up.

We were still missing three players from voicecomms; we need to sort them out (otherwise, I thought they worked well).

Please ensure you're in the clan channel at least 30 minutes (will be 20 or 15 in future once we're more fluid) before the game starts to give you a chance to read the tactics and have roles assigned. If you're going to be that late, please let the match organiser know so we don't assign a sub.

A big, royal **** you to Rmage, Wildthing and SquireMuldoon for failing to turn up and failing to notify anyone after saying they would play. Without two subs, two trialists and two very lucky last-minute mercs with comms we could have been a lot of players down.

Thank you to Smartmonkey and Muppinator for your mercenary skills. Your check is in the post.

Welcome to Bootz and Helier, who put in sound individual and team performances, and may now wear the proud badge of MPUK on their BF1942 tags.

Finally, congratulations to all of you (not just those who played tonight). We are now justifiably top of the squadgames.com ladder, and your clan leadership will be funding a liquid reward at i14 for attendees (with a special medals ceremony ;)

Well played everyone :)

Wizzo
16th October 2002, 09:46
More practice for me at bombing methinks... despite some well timed aerial rapes. Needs more consistency tho. Oh and the stuka is a flying brick... hence my not being able to provide much aerial dogfighting prowess on kursk as axis :)

Rmage

My apologies I actually managed to sign on at 7.15 last night ready for a game.
Then i went back to work ten mins later (must turn off mobile), I should employ a night shift with more than 3 brain cells between them.

Sorry :(

Will be hapefully back to normal service and not on call from mid Nov

Well, that was a pleasant surprise, especially considering I couldn't get to last nights games. Didn't realise I was such an addict.
I turned up a few minutes after start to see if I was needed (it appears I was) but no-one said anything in the channel for ages, and I got dragged back to bed before long...

On a related note, I hope to make our next match, in particular to increase the strength of our armoured contingent.

Also, how progresses trials for those who have indicated an interest? (Well done to Helier).

Congratulations all from myself and Psym - currently undergoing experimental ADSL surgery in the hopes of returning to the front shortly. Current ETA 26th of October - until then you'll have to make do with Bvark, NJ and Boff's inspiring (yet sometimes quite scary) leadership. A pint to the man who works out how to fit a volume control onto Bvark for I14 :P

We'll be tracking the clan's progress with great interest, make us proud...
