Some of us are trying not to make it totally obvious we're browsing the forums at work and as such only skim the first line of the message before replying ;)

And I really don't mind the map frankly

At this present time i'm unable to play due to other plans but if they fall out of bed i'll be around if needed.

The Priest is the UK land arty.

Wasnt too effective last time, but the game didn't last very long at all and I need to co-ordinate the spotting scout better : it's the very FAR side of the map I need. I can see as far as the near 2 enemy bunkers, so binoxing INSIDE that range is useless, I need the enemy base, and PARTICULARLY the slope down from their base. I can hit their arty and their tanks coming down the slope then. Best bit is disrupting the first 2 enemy tanks...

According to my count of players already put their names down for this i wont likely to be fielded tonight. Unless LEM have a large squad?

Basically what im asking is how big the squad is that they are putting out tonight...

Boffykins
2nd October 2002, 12:09
At least 8, up to 12. That's why we are having reserves.

Zakalwe
2nd October 2002, 13:25
I'll be there - provided there's space. I didn't have time to read all the posts but I'll be around anyway.

I'd like to vote for Stalingrad. Cos it's leet and I have tactics for it.

But Battleaxe is cool too.

We must watch out for them on Wake - we've branched out a bit so we might not be quite as fantastic at it as we were. Nah who am I kidding - lets play it using only knives.

Eskimo

Congrats to AcidUK and Zakalwe on firsts, Italian war hero (with parmesan clusters) to Bugalugs, although the disconnect can't have helped in the second round.

Points to note:

Before:
- Settle and agree on number of players in team - we went from 14 to 8 to 9 to 10 to 9 during the game.
- Get everyone into the channel punctually before game starts to talk tactics
- Try and keep some reserves on hot standby
- We need more pilots (gifted leaving really hurt us).

General notes:
- I need to STFU (thanks to all who pointed it out).
- We need to get the tank driver specialists into tanks
- Tanks shouldn't go in alone, but equally the escorts should not be too close to the tanks. Go down with your tanks if you think they more than one man out there - it's unlikely you'll do much against them.
- Everyone needs comms - we need to get RogerWilco or Gamevoice hosted
- We need to get a 'closest man to AA _x_ call' up (and name the AA sites on each level).
- We need to name the buildings in each spawn to tell people where enemies are hiding.

Us as Allies notes:
Needed to use the AA guns much better
Bugs work with the island defguns was good
We need to switch to defensive mode (trading spawns for their lives) a lot earlier.

Us as Axis notes:
Work with the battleship at the end was good, we need to coordinate fires a little better.
Not having a pilot really hurt us
Work with cleaning out locations was good.
Defending was less stellar (I think we need defense specialists, and 'usual spots' for them but I'm open to suggestions).
If we're not going to shut them out, we need to bleed them, as zakalwe said (i.e. defend and let them come to us - it's very hard for them to get round us).

Wrapping up:
Everyone played very well against very competent opposition, I think we can learn from our mistakes and beat them next time we play. Thanks to everyone's sportsmanship, especially the reserves who put up with being ****ed about more than most.

pld guys.. osrry i ahd to miss the scond round...

i think bvark right... we need tog et a plane team sorted. i was assigned the role but people didnt give me first choice of the planes.... and the ones that took them were not doing anything with them (some didnt even take off without hitting the trees)

so i think we ned to get a plane team sorted... once i was in the air it was ok... i mean 14 kills in a plane wasnt bad considering for half the game i was trying to defend the planes from being bombed...

and thats the other thing.. they got 2 planes in the air straight away then went straight over and destroyed out planes.... they kept doing this untill we eventually destroyed the carrier... and thats what hurt us.. i couldnt get into the air. once the carrier was down we took the lead for the first time in the game... then at the end of the map the carrier respwned and the gained on us again..

anyway just my view... but apart from that good games.... more fun than the game on sunday as it was a bit of a challenge..

look forward to the next one.

p.s - good luck tomorrow.

As a (trying my best) specialist in sabotage behind enemy lines and piloting, I'll definitely be in the game more often from now on. I'm just pissed I didn't make this game :(

Catachan

On Wake Island, can I suggest one thing... When starting up, to get the planes in the air, I've found it best to get an AA up and running in the base second down from the right leg of the island. Here is where enemy planes have to come over if they want to get to the airfield fast enough to stop our planes from taking off.

Get an AA in there and they take a risk going for our planes. In the meantime, our planes can take off while someone else sets themselves up on the AA gun right next to the airfield.

I've found that works 9/10. the 1/10 being if the AA are too slow to hit (really needs good AA gunners).

Main things:

1] We definitely need to decide at the VERY start of the game if we're going for a shutout win, or an attrition win. If we were to grab 2 or 3 objectives and just *HOLD* them, defensively all the time with a nice big wall of men and tanks/ATs we could win by attrition easily from the very start. Similarly, if we decide to go for a shutout win, we need to co-ordinate attacks better. Using tanks in pairs and *always* with Assault Infantry Support is a good idea - once you have the enemy on the run from one point, you can roll through them to the next one before they have a chance to find good defensive spots.

2] We need naming conventions. People need to know what "north base" "north village" "south village" are. People also need to use DEATH time as the time to pick their next spawn strategically, not as a rest.

Ooops - well, it wasn't trees per se, but enemies. I went to grab a plane to Halo the north village just as an enemy tank rolled into the centre of the buildings at the airfield flag, so I diverted and tried to ram/bomb it while on the ground. I actually got about 10 feet from it before they shelled me, but I did get an infantryman.

Ah yes - that would be the one where I saw two tanks coming in down the road into the airport, and tried to press my PUSH TO TALK button, and managed to get my fingers in a muddle. Not quite as deadly when you're just a solider, but when taking off... NONO ;)
