hmmm i dled the nvida detonators today, and performance seems to be owned. its now very stuttery ingame, where as it didnt use to be. also, there are issues such as bad flickering on the screen after a new map load which i didnt have b4. clearly it must be the drivers, any1 else had any probs, coz i might just go back to my old ones....

Which version?
There are currently 2 official sanctioned versions available. the 30.82 drivers and the 40.71 beta detonators. I didn't like the Det40 series and am yet to experience any probs with the 30.82's under XP. I found that tyhe det 40's were naturally dark too in games without tweakage.
This will/may only make a little difference, but I take it that you are tweaking the driver settings after install?
Such as display settings, advanced button, geforce tab, additional properties button?
Select manually control the AA mode and set itto off.
Then Direct3D Tab and set the mipmap level from best image quality to best performance. You can also play with the vsync option under the OpenGL tab of you want.
You probably know all of this already, but I come across many folks who don't know/play with these settings. Most of my mates, for starters!:D
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Nick :)

Well, both the released 40. drivers won't let me go into the driver-specific display properties to do stuff like set vsync cos it just dies, something about run dll as app... Thought they would have fixed it with new version, but they obviously suck cock.

and me.
Could someone just post the solution here? plz? lol
havent figured out IRC yet, havent really had time.
I had "bits" with the old drivers, the new drivers eliminate bits, but at the cost of not being abele to access nView and numerous other settings.

as far as I'm aware the 40.xx series are still in beta?
also had the same problem when I tested them and tried to change properties, decided to go back to 30xx and wait for the official release.

It was a joke, but to say that ATi drivers suck ass is a total lie. They are totally on par with the Nvidia Detonator drivers now. Fair enough the older cards had ****e drivers, but the latest ones haven't.
there's nothing wrong with ATi drivers anymore!

It took them long enough to get the driver situation sorted out though:(
That and the lower performance of their cards over the last few years has really, really hurt them, as the company will tell you :(
I hope it isn't a case of the beginning of the end, as I wouldn't like to see Nvidia dominate things completely.
I miss 3DFX!:(
Cheers,
Nick :)

Just to add my bit, yep they suck under XP !
Performance seems to be slower than the 30.82 ones and then theres the grieg with "run dll" business when trying to get at the display properties - i know someone posted a fix, but still, what a pile of poo......
Have rolled back to the 30.82 and all is sweet.
I suppose the saying "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" comes into play :D

The cards that had trouble with 8X AGP had an older revision chip than those being manufactured now. And most of the cards that had trouble were being distributed to the Japanese market, so I doubt you'd see many here with a problem.

Always the way.....
I am having zero problem with the 40.72 drivers from Nvidia that I downloaded this evening and you don't need that fixit thing when upgrading from the 30.82's :)
Cheers,
Nick :)
