I love it and at least my shots actually hit stuff, unlike another popular FPS thats being played at the moment.
errrrm what is BF1942?

LOL.. I dunno, there seems to be a "bug" in UT2K3 insta gib demo...
When you get shot, sometimes you dont get gibbed. You die, but no gibss?? they should rename it to Insta-Death :p

Damnit Telex, stop nicking my line!!! ;)
Tsunami i do know what you mean about the gibbing, sometimes you just fall on the floor in a heap, i dare say this will be ammended in the full version.
But when you do gib, hell, you gib!

Instagib has always ruled and will always rule. I hope they have another fatboy style mutator with it though. That was great at lan parties.
*Tsunami*
25th September 2002, 10:28
Not sure if Fatboy is in there, but its going to have "BIG HEAD" mutator (the better u r the bigger the head)..
These new fangled instagib guns, seem to be a bit puny when they fire. In old UT there used to be a GOOD SHAFT of red lazer with every shot, in this one its more like a thin beam of red light.
Also (im not sure), does the red lazer have a twirly effect around it, AKA Quake 2 Rail Gun??.. trouble is its in red, the lazer is red, so its hard to spot :(

25th September 2002, 10:30
I must admit i dont like the new laser effect either. It was quite hard to get used to as it was kind of off putting for some reason.
I also think that the sound has been toned down, where is the nice boom of the gun.

I do like the new effect and it's nice in team DM games that the effect is colour coded.

Not a big fan of instagib myself and it gets a bit spammy with body parts on 16+ servers. Had to use a couple "set bhidden"s to get rid of the excess gore.
Cheez
25th September 2002, 14:11
You dont need to do that. you can just turn gore off in the in game menus. thats what i do. when you shoot someone they just fall down dead. then after a few seconds their body dissapears.
also setting graphics to minimum makes the laser beam from the e-shock rifle look like a straight line :)

I have to play gfx min @ 640 to get 30fps now you can all shut up and stop complaining about a bit of gore!

There is -nothing- wrong with your fov at 120.

See, it hardly looks any different at all.
Apart from the FOV change. all changes were made using in game menus, not console commands, so id hardly call it cheating.

It is blatently cheating.
You are increasing your viewable area.

At the expense of accuracy (the cross hair isnt where it should be at that fov) its a tradeoff. tbh i only use it because it makes things look like they are moving faster.

cheez, how u change FOV in UT2k3, is it still fov 115 etc?
Cheez
25th September 2002, 20:22
yup. same engine. same console commands it would seem.
K
25th September 2002, 23:12
NOTE: anyone using this @ i14 will be kicked from the public servers and band from comps so dont get used to it. Basically any changes not availible from the standard gui will be classed as cheating aka no console commands. U dont like it thats tough go play Q3!

That is questionable. Some people seem to be just as accurate, and its beside the point. It is STILL an advantage, and Im glad killing agrees :)

I've always found increasing the FOV on Q3 helped my accuracy. No console commands at all? Not even the one to turn giblets off? Might help to keep a frame rate when things get messy :(

I'm with squire on this one. That is obsolutly blatently cheating Cheez.

does beg the question of why they leave commands like that in the game.....
ah well (says the guy who plays Q3 on fov 130)

Thats easily answered:
So that mod makes / developer can make effects like the sniper rifle.

Fine. ill start playing it at normal FOV (90 i believe?) but the rest of the changes i have made through the normal in-game menus (including turning all blood off) they have been quite extensive in their graphics options in this one.

i still do not understand this need to increase your FOV. The games in question (mainly Q3) all look really REALLY ugly! You might as well just play etch-a-sketch.
I play games to enjoy them, thats why i spend money on a decent gfx card so i can have them look good.
i guess its something i'll never understand.
K

Not true there Cheez u've also hacked some gfx settings. and its 85 Fov default.

I'm with you on this one, £300 on a GFX card to play lego mode!!??
K
26th September 2002, 12:20
One reason why the q3 lamers do it is due to a bug in the game engine where over 125fps ( I think ) you can do moves not possible you shouldnt be able to. Hence definitely cheating.

erm.. not knowingly... honest... i dont -know- any other console commands to change settings...

And if you don't have £300 spare to spend on a new gfx card? I'd be more than willing to lego ut2k3 to get a consitently playable frame rate.

Yes i know what you mean.
In RTCW, if you limit your FPS to 76 (or a few other values as well) you are able to duck/jump onto boxes that you can't normally get onto.
Say_ten: to be honest, I don't personally see any problems with turning off gibs to help improve FPS on lower end systems. i think its one of those things where you have to take each case as it comes. Although i don't tihnk thats even managable. :( Its the people who hack their config to such an extent that it gives them a clear advantage over everyone else.

If people are struggling to play a game at a decent frame rate then in the interest of fair competition they can do one of 3 things:
1. Turn down their graphics settings. Just about every game will allow you to reduce resolution, texurte sizes and turn off effect from the ingame menus.
2. Buy better equipment.
3. Live with it.

Talk about going to the opposite extreme. From allowing anyone to change anything, we're moving to, if you change any settings your cheating..
I think..... people go to lan parties, to play games and have fun. Now in competitions where prizes are attached, rules have to put in place to ensure a level playing field for all. Thus acceptable ranges have to be agreed, and all players should be made aware of the acceptable range settings.
However, I couldnt give two monkeys if someone likes playing with a FOV of 180 + legoland in the public servers. If thats how they like to play the game, and they enjoy playing the game that way, why should I (or indeed anyone) stop them?. So long as they are not using additional "modifications" to actually cheat (aimbots/wallhacks). They have nothing to gain from playing like that (except maybe enjoyment?).
If you enforce strict / unflexible settings on public servers, you risk losing the punters (MPUK customers).
If it was football, MPUK is the groundskeeper for the "football fields" (servers) we play on.
Tourney games = local "pub" league, there's a ref, there are rules, team sizes, shirt colors, footyboots, etc.
Public Games = kickabout / footie game with your m8's, so long as noone is BLATENTLY cheating, it dont matter if your not wearing a football strip, or correct football boots.
I think "common sense" needs to be applied :)

on the FOV stuff, can't servers lock all the clients to a certain value?

in nearly 4 years of ut ive never found a server that has it locked.

playing with fov is fun .... atm im wanting to get 3 or 4 projectors and link them all up to me pc , then have them projected around a room with 360 fov on Q3 or UT2k3 ... i mean, how cool would that be, because you'd have to turn your head to look whichever direction, so it wouldnt be cheating because you still have the same FOV as any other human. its just so much more realistic really.
