This thread has been dead for to long lol. Time to post something which might wake it up.

Distributed Computing, Does anyone actualy know much about setting this up....

See, i was thinking.. I have a lot of low end systems at home which are just gathering dust. Would it be possible to bring all these machines online, and share their processing potential to 1 machine?

I.E, use the old bits of crap to make a reasonable machine....

i have never really looked at it before, so thought I might play about with it to see what I can learn..

what you want is a beowulf cluster. uses linux and a central boot server.

unfortunately you have to write the apps to make use of the cluster.
