you would KNOW if a game uses voxels because it looks like its running in software mode or something.

Outcast is an old game that used voxels.

If you want to see it in all it's *cough* glory... (yeah right!) Go and play the original Delta Force, from Novalogic (probably get it on budget for about 4-5 quid).

It's a good game, but the voxels are instantly noticeable, and it looks drab.

a lot of the older novalogic flight sims used voxels and some of them looked quite pretty (for the time) :)

Tiberian Suin and Red Alert 2 used Voxels. And Patch, do you HAVE to be such a b!tch? he was simply asking a question, no need to get ar5ey

Ah yes i remember comanche, reminded me of flying over a sponge.

commanche was the first game that used a voxel based engine (volumetric pixel).

using voxels over a polygon landscape can look good to represet stuff in flight sims. i think evans and sutherland do a voxel based graphics solution for industrial flight sims.

Novalogic use a voxel based engine in the Delta Force series. That's an FPS. However they also use polygons for buildings and vehicles.

I don't think they look too bad except close up. For far distance stuff the voxel engine can create great terrain. However for a FPS where most of the game is played immediately in front of you you need a precision that voxels can create.

i remember buying outcast and it ran like a dog on my then brad new top of the line P2 450.

Why use Voxsles when 3D acceleration was so fast! and easy to do. I mean it wasent a bad game but i gave up because it just looked to poor and hurts your eyes. plus the jerking on a top system.

all i can say is...... SHOCKING!! both ****e!

so grainy its like you playing it in 640x480 when you really in 1024!!

Gifted purely out of interest do you know the difference between a full stop and an exclamation mark?

what the hell is wrong with voxels

wasnt Delta force voxels? i know its old now but you'd think they could move the technology on a bit....

<edit>
btw
what made me think it in the first place was the shadows of the players and vehicles looking like lego - take a look next time you're on it</edit>

they are like that to conserver CPU power. Fully shaded shadows with a light source and very high quality are very prossesor intensive and to be honest you hardly ever notice them anyway.

They remind me of the ones on 1NSANE.

-sorry for off topic-

Isn't Comanche 4 still voxel-based? That eats CPU like a goddamn ho eats .. fruit

actuaslly i thought for this commanche they did away with their beloved voxels

cant be sure but i think i read that somewhere anyway...
