Hi All,

We picked up 8 players for a match against LEM (Lemmings 1942, #lem1942 on irc) tonight.

Andyf, Njoroge, Bvark, Defcon, Boffbowsh, Muldoon, Fergus & 10acious turned out.

Thanks also to Wildthing and Ice for agreeing to drop out when LEM couldn't field a full side.

We won 173-0 as Allies, and 157-0 as Axis.

We worked together pretty well in a single comms channel, and with a single player in the air as both allies and axis (Fergus), who took radio direction to knock down tanks well.

Things that didn't work so well:
-- Anti-aircraft coordination - we got bombed a lot by two of their competent bombers as allies
-- coordinated attacks (especially up the north road - tanks need infantry support)
-- HALOing. Much as I hate to admit it, our haloing was not all that effective - I think it's harder to pull off against a team with rogerwilco, since they see you going in. REAL haloing (where you jump out at max altitude a long way away) might be more effective.

We will try and arrange a match against http://www.clan-eld.com/main.html sometime next week.

sorry to be pedantic but that is HAHO - High Altitude High Opening.

But well done, and looks like you could be onto a winning formula, also good to note that none of the minus points were due to friendly fire.

Nah, I would HALO, since you can't really steer in BF1942 when you open the parachute, and coming down with the parachute open makes you a huge target.

yea but if you jump out low people see you and the plane blow up. Then they start looking for you. If you jump out high they dont see the plane which means you can get them unawares cos players in general never look up unless they see you jump out low.

I have actually jumped right ontop of someone before now, and shot them from the parashute as i came down, they span around a bit but never looked up. :D

Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I'm a n00b to this game anyway :D

What's a HALO in terms of this game?

As long as your parachute is open when you hit the ground you will survive, so you are able to pull off HALO jumps - High Altitude, Low Opening.

oh, lol. I do that without thinking, hehe.

Sheesh, they think of acronyms for everything these days :D

Sorry, HALO is my fault (at least in bf1942).

I just liked the name cos it's (sort of) accurate & short.

We should have a haloing competition - bail out at max altitude and see how close you can get to the flagpole in the airbase while opening your chute at the last minute.

LOL! That could be.... messy. I think everyone should do it at once, or at least like 6 at a time.... :D
